"I'm Bored..."

It's been said, whined, cried, whimpered and grumbled at least a million times here in my house this summer already, and it's only July 8.  "I'm boooooooored."  We've had just over one stinkin' month of summer and kids are bored?  HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?

I saw a version of this visual on either Pinterest or FaceBook - I can't recall where for sure.  It was written out on a dry erase board and I thought it was brilliant.  Problem is, I only have one kid who is even able to read in my house.

BUT, this can be printed out for all the moms out there, too.  Slap a piece of tape or a magnet on it and hang it up in your kitchen where it's visible.  So if or when you do hear the infamous, "I'm boooooored....!"  You'll have a couple of good options for those kiddos.

DIY Silhouette Wall Art

Silhouettes are absolutely gorgeous! They're completely timeless art pieces that will forever be in style.  In my mind, I have been working on my new dining room gallery wall (pics to come soon!) and knew I wanted to incorporate silhouettes of my children.  Their sweet, little profiles are so pure & precious...this will help me remember the exact image for years to come!

This past year, I taught Computers at my son's school and I completed a couple "Silhouette" projects during the year with some of the classes.  Since we did not have Photoshop software on the school computers, I used a great FREE photo editing website called www.ipiccy.com.  It's truly awesome and has tons of great features!

Here are the directions that I gave my students to create their own silhouettes using iPiccy.  Long, but simple.

{EAT} Wall Art from Repurposed Wood

7/2/2014

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is such a great place! If you're a DIY-er, you can really find some good bargains there. I saw the perfectly weathered reclaimed stud there last week and purchased it for a whopping $0.80, knowing I'd find something fun to do with it.

I ended up trimming the stud down with my saw into 12 inch pieces. I took a long piece of scrap wood I had and attached it to the back using my Ryobi cordless brad nailer (an awesome tool, by the way).  Next, I attached some picture hanging wire, flipped it over and glued some "EAT" letters I had from some previous wall art.  They were natural color, but I had spray painted them silver and then lightly sanded them for a more distressed look.

Had a great spot between two windows in our dining room where I hung it!
