The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is such a great place! If you're a DIY-er, you can really find some good bargains there. I saw the perfectly weathered reclaimed stud there last week and purchased it for a whopping $0.80, knowing I'd find something fun to do with it.
I ended up trimming the stud down with my saw into 12 inch pieces. I took a long piece of scrap wood I had and attached it to the back using my Ryobi cordless brad nailer (an awesome tool, by the way). Next, I attached some picture hanging wire, flipped it over and glued some "EAT" letters I had from some previous wall art. They were natural color, but I had spray painted them silver and then lightly sanded them for a more distressed look.
Had a great spot between two windows in our dining room where I hung it!
