I had been looking for a long time for a piece to hang in a narrow space in our kitchen to display our Weekly Family Schedule. Life is crazier than ever and I need lots of reminders for me! I knew exactly where I wanted to hang something, once I found it...but actually "the finding" part was a little challenging. I needed a narrow piece to fit in an area between our cupboards and doorway, and I knew wanted something slightly rustic. As I was strolling about on one of my many visits to Hobby Lobby, I ran across this fun New York sign in the clearance aisle. After eyeballing its size, I thought I could definitely modify it and make it work. I think it was about $35. So, I flipped it over and removed the three pieces of artwork that were inside of it. I was hoping to reuse them, but two were textured and the third had burlap actually glued to it. So - off to Menards I went. I purchased a larger piece of MDF board for about $5, then traced and sawed three pieces that were exactly the same size as what was originally in the artwork. I painted all three pieces of MDF board with chalkboard paint and then used my staple gun to secure them to the frame. Next, I used my Cameo Silhouette to create the text that I wanted to appear on our schedule sign and adhered it to it. I thought it would be fun to feature a "countdown area" at the top, to keep us all looking forward to something exciting:) And there you have it! 13 days til Spring Break {YAY!} and our weekly schedule. Pretty pleased! :)
